Masters Degree Coursework

I am currently studying for my Master’s degree in Graphic Design at Falmouth University. This is a selection of some of the work I have done for the first modules, briefly exploring different elements of graphic design, each piece is the final piece of each week’s task and challenge.

ETHICALTAINMENT
A new word or term to describe a style of graphic design, after looking at the latest D&AD award winners.

Ethicaltainment

CORE VALUES OF A DESIGNER
A project to display what I consider to be the top 5 core values of a successful graphic designer, designed as tarot cards, using photo montage and collage.

EXPRESSIVE TYPOGRAPHY
Take a poem, and set it as a typographic piece to convey the meaning and mood of the message. I chose this piece of poetry by Nikita Gill, as I find it empowering.

MOON DATA VISUALISATION CRITIQUE
For this project, we had to critique a piece of data visualisation, and then design it as an editorial piece.

SUNRISE AND MOONRISE DATA VISUALISATION
This project was to convey some data of our choice visually in the best way to understand the data. I chose sunrise and sunset times, and designed them overlaid with moonrise and moonset times. For this short project, I only designed the first three months of the year. I wanted to show clearly the patterns within the moon and sun rising and setting with as little explanation as possible.

BRIXHAM TYPOGRAPHY
Using observations from my local area, and historical research, I designed a piece of illustrated typography for Brixham. Based on the blue ceramic tiles used with white lettering as old street signs, but with a more uncial style typography to reflect the medieval history, and a fishnet design to pay homage to the fishing port.
